4 Ways to Add Creativity to your Day (Even During Quarantine)

Want to mix up your daily routine? Now, more than ever, doing something creative each day can dramatically help to manage a work/life balance and reduce the risk of burnout while so many are working from home. Personally, I never noticed essential creativity is to my day, but when quarantine started and all of my creative sources were taken away and/or modified, I really started to miss the inspiration and that was absolutely showing in my work and overall mood. Here are four ways you can use to get your creativity restarted:

1. Get Artistic

Art is something that can feel so intimidating and even scary if you don’t think of yourself as artistic, but trust me when I say if I can do it so can you. I have always been so jealous of people who are naturally artistic (cough cough my sister) and have always wanted more time to practice so quarantine was the perfect excuse. I have been painting using watercolors about once a week and it has been such a stress reliever. The paintings are literally never good, but there is something therapeutic about doing something just for fun when so much of our lives are centered around overachieving. If you’re not like me and are artistic, think of a way you can showcase that art or take it to a new level.

One of my best friends started an Instagram account, @designsbysydney_, to showcase her Adobe Procreate drawings! She has gained such a following and has so much fun interacting with other art and design accounts. She even created the logo for my website, huge fan (: Def recommend!

2. Reorganize your House or Room

While we are spending more time than ever in our houses and rooms, it is so important feel comfortable and inspired by those rooms. Consider moving the furniture around in your bedroom or office or even just organize your shelves or drawers differently. This will make you feel excited about doing something new, but also will help to organize your space. Working and living in a messy room exhausts your body and mind, whether you recognize it or not. While we navigate working from home, it is crucial to take as much care of your space, for yourself, as possible!

3. Start a Blog

Another amazing idea for finding creativity in your daily routine is to start an Instagram, blog, etc. for one of your passions! While starting this blog has been so much work, it is also so fun and makes me so excited to be creating and working towards something every day. One of my other friends started an Instagram for her new apartment, @home_rn, and it is amazing. Creativity can be derived from our everyday surroundings which is so important to take note of and appreciate. Starting your own project is a great way to highlight creativity around you that you may have never noticed before.

4. YouTube and Podcasts

I grouped YouTube and Podcasts together because I could literally go on forever about them, but like… in a bad way. I absolutely love watching vlogs and creators on YouTube and I listen to Podcasts like it’s my job. Whenever I’m in a creative rut or low mood, I always go to YouTube or my favorite Podcasts to give me the spark to feel inspired and motivated again. Right now, I’m so obsessed with Emma Leger’s and Katelynn Nolan’s videos on YouTube they are so amazing and have built incredible communities and followers and overall, they are just super inspiring!! Podcasts, obviously, Girls Gotta Eat and Mood with Lauren Elizabeth, iconic. I think creativity and mood go hand in hand a lot of the time and sometimes it’s so nice for someone else validate your feelings and tell you that it is okay to have a bad day! These women are always so honest and transparent about how they are feeling and it’s so powerful, are so inspiring. Okay, end rant. SO if you have not watched or listened to them, thank me later (:
